Earth Liberation Front topples radio station towers

Everett, WA: Two radio station towers were torn down early Friday by the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) in the Lord’s Hills valley in Snohomish County, WA. The towers, owned by station KRKO, have been a source of controversy for years. A sign left at the scene claimed responsibility by the ELF.

” Due to the health and environmental risks associated with radio waves emitted from the towers, we applaud this act by the ELF,” stated Jason Crawford, a spokesperson for the North American Earth Liberation Front Press Office. “When all legal channels of opposition have been exhausted, concerned citizens have to take action into their own hands to protect life and the planet.”

For the past eight years, opponents have waged a legal battle against the towers, arguing that AM radio waves cause adverse health affects including a higher rate of cancer, harm to wildlife, and that the signals have been interfering with home phone and intercom lines.

Last year, the first four towers were erected by KRKO after numerous hearings and appeals. KRKO plans to build two more towers to boost the station’s broadcasting power.

” We have to weigh our priorities and the local ecosystem in Everett, along with the local residents, do not need additional sports news radio station towers that come at the expense of reduced property values and harmful radio waves,” Crawford continued. “We sincerely hope that people continue to take direct action to stop the threats to human health, wildlife and the planet.”

The E.L.F. is an international underground organization that uses direct action in the form of economic sabotage to stop the systematic exploitation and destruction of the planet. Since its inception in North America in 1996, the ELF has inflicted well over $150 million in damages to corporations and governmental agencies that are profiting from the destruction of the Earth.

The North American Earth Liberation Front Press Office is a legal news agency representing the earth liberation movement. The NAELFPO reports on the covert direct actions taken by the Earth Liberation Front in defense of the planet. Targeting deforestation, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), urban sprawl, automobile and industry pollution, and other threats to the natural environment, the Earth Liberation Front uses nonviolent economic sabotage to compel industries and governments to reshape their environmentally destructive policies.

    Nice.
    If your DAD …

    Nice.
If your DAD worked for AT&T have him come and debate.
I never said that AM towers operate in the GHZ frequencies. If I conveyed that by mistake then allow me to correct it.
I DID say, however, that AM radio towers are only dangerous if you ignore the signs and go inside the compound.
Andrews makes much more than microwave drums and dishes.
as for your last sentence. umm what? English!!! do YOU SPEAK IT!

    my dad worked for …
my dad worked for AT&T as a microwave engineer for over 35 years and was one of the head engineers for the communications on the world trade center when it was being built. i still have old microwave catalogs from “ANDREWS” a company that makes parabolic reflectors. AM radio does NOT transmit in the gigahertz frequency! i learned qiute a bit about radio frequencies years ago cause i was thinking about getting into microwave communications at one time ! go your arrogant sef u parabolic fool !

    @doubleslottedflaps …
@doubleslottedflaps Yep..and FM radio stations often work at the low end of the microwave spectrum..as do cellphone towers.
AM towers are dangerous only if you’re 20 feet from an antenna that’s turned up to full power.
They don’t do much to birds anymore since they’ve been regulated as to how much power they can put out on a single tower. that’s why you see the 4 tower arrays that they have these days.

    The towers that …
The towers that you’re talking about …the ones that “kill songbirds” are the old GTE towers with the 20ghz high performance microwave horns.
as far as I know (and I climb these towers all the time) they’ve all been decommissioned or had the power turned down on them.
The amount of power pushed through microwave sites is now well regulated so as to protect the animals that live near them.

    AM stations do not …
AM stations do not broadcast at gigahertz frequencies. IF this is an AM station, it is licensed by the FCC to broadcast on the Medium Wave sub-band in the United States. That is between 520 kHz1,610 kHz. There should not be any health concerns regarding the frequency bands these transmitters operate at. Even if the station is powerful and one had a concern, the solution is very simple: stay away from the tower. Bringing the tower down is a very stupid idea and it solves nothing.

    are you kidding? …
are you kidding? Anyone that acts like that should be drawn and quartered. How would you like it if some radical came in the middle of the night and for absolutely no reason destroyed equipment that you depend on to be able to turn a profit and pay your employees? Besides, that tower was out in the middle of nowhere not bothering anyone and nobody gives a about some stupid birds.

    I admire the brave …
I admire the brave souls who had the guts to take down these towers, which, as the news of course does not mention, kill thousands of song birds every year. Power the the ELF; power to the people who can muster the courage to do this.

    morehumble than you …
    morehumble than you…you’re wrong.

the radio waves given off by these towers are in the gigahertz range..they’re pretty high frequency…they’re just omni directional.
perhaps you may want to learn RF theory before you type.

    MMMMMMmmmmmmmeat! …
    MMMMMMmmmmmmmeat! Yummy!
And because i don’t see things the same way as you whiny hippies, I’m brainless?!? Hilarious! Everything in moderation! I’m as healthy as a horse. I have regular checkups and all is OK. I don’t smoke or drink, yet I NEVER criticize others for doing so. Live and let live. You should try it! Staying out of other peoples business is good for you! I have to wonder, do you feel your religious views are the only TRUE views out there? Do you push those onto others also?

    Oh goodness me… …
Oh goodness me…It’s not just Chefs, even the World Health Organisation suggests leaving out meat for our health. If you had any brains you’d pay attention instead of just dismissing things.
I used to eat cheeseburgers, meat and dairy until I found out how unhealthy it is. some of us are able to grow and learn you know, which appears to be alien to you.

    And no, I don’t …
And no, I don’t catch it and eat it raw. I’m glad the places that you despise so much exist. That way someone else deals with all of the icky mess, while I eat the delicious flesh. That’s the way I like it…I don’t have to look into those big beautiful eyes before I eat them. I have someone else to do that. It keeps them employed and me happy…that’s what makes the world go around! If there were no meat/dairy/egg eaters, there would be NO cows or chickens. NONE. They are here for consumption.

    Hehe, you keep …
Hehe, you keep acting like one out of a thousand chefs that don’t want to eat/cook meat MATTER in any way, and I’ll keep laughing at you while I eat meat. I just had some tasty burger, cheese and rice and it was delicious! Again, I thank dog I live in a country where I am free to eat whatever I want and people like you are considered crazy. There is a good reason why that is the case, it’s true. And I think you know I meant omnivore, it’s called a mistake. I’m sure you’ve made a few.

    In fact, most …
In fact, most causes have been fought by minorities, it’s always been the minority that make the changes.
The point I was making, that seems to have gone straight over your head, is that even those chefs that cook meat agree that animals are treated appallingly even though they are quite happy to cook them.
A carnivore eh? so you only eat animal flesh. Do you chase it to catch it &eat it raw on the spot with your bare teeth like true carnivores?

    (February 27, 2010 - 11:08 am)

    And again, a SMALL …
And again, a SMALL number of chefs. It’s all relative. And why don’t the chefs just go work at some vegan restaurants and call it a day. Again, this is about choice, and your whiny attitude sure tells me that you don’t think I should have the choice to eat meat. Thank DOG I live in a country where others aren’t allowed to make such decisions for me. Again, eating meat is natural. There are carnivores, omnivores and herbivores on this planet, and by nature, I’m a carnivore, deal with it.
