What is the difference between a supreme court appointment and the confirmation date?

I’m doing an assignment on the US Supreme Court. I am having trouble finding or comprehending the answer to the above question. Please help.

The president nominates Supreme Court justices, while the senate must confirm them. It’s a two step process. The nomination date is the date the president selects their choice; the confirmation date is the date the senate votes to confirm the selection.
